Our Mission

About EqualRight2Dream

Sometimes injustice creates a very tangible barrier between our dreams and our opportunities. At EQR2D our mission is simple — we advocate for equal protection and equal opportunity under the law. In this Great Land of Opportunity, we believe that everyone has an Equal Right to Dream.

At EqualRight2Dream, we recognize that one of the most important gifts that you could ever give someone is an OPPORTUNITY.

Imagine That

Imagine growing up in inner-city Chicago, daring to become a doctor — then losing everything for speaking the truth. Not a story from the 1950s. From today.

About the Poem

Written by Dr. Marcus Rushing, MD, MPH, MS — physician, public health advocate, and founder of EqualRight2Dream. This poem reflects on the commodification of justice and the cost of speaking truth in a world where silence is the safer investment.

A Long Way from Yesterday

— a Poem by Marcus Rushing, MD, MPH, MS

They said the 'Dream' had evolved—

no longer "Life & Liberty,"

but Liquidity.

Freedom, redefined as a Figure—

"Show me your worth," they say,

and they mean your net.

A nation once measured in ideals

now tallies its virtue in commas.

But tell me—

if wealth is the engine of dreams,

why did justice move faster

when our pockets were emptier?

Why did our collective voices carry further

when they had nothing to peddle

but truth?

The church, once a drumbeat in our fight for justice,

now hums with the quiet yearning for full pockets,

Our sanctuary of refuge, covertly trended into a Den of Thieves.

There was more Justice when it was JustUs,

a unified voice singing "We Shall Overcome",

and we did—until our collectivism

was fractured by the weight of rugged individualism.

Somewhere, we made a trade—

as quiet as a signature:

"No dollars? Then you must have erred."

"Many dollars? Then you must be heard."

And just like that,

morality became negotiable.

"Right" was rebranded as "profitable."

"Wrong" was whatever didn't pay.

We built a system

where the same currency

both crowns and crucifies—

where money doesn't just talk,

it testifies.

Speak out—

and watch your value depreciate.

Tell the truth—

and see how quickly you're written off.

Because now,

they don't have to censor you—

they can simply invoice you into silence.

They don't hang truth-tellers anymore—

they foreclose on them.

No rope, no fire—

just a quiet audit of existence:

Accounts frozen.

Opportunities evaporated.

Reputation… liquidated.

"You don't have to kill the man," they've learned,

"if you can bankrupt his Name."

And others—

oh, others are watching.

Learning the arithmetic of survival:

Silence equals stability.

Dissent equals debt.

So they cash out their conscience,

divest from courage,

and hedge against truth.

Because in a marketplace where morals are negotiable,

integrity is the least liquid asset.

And corruption?

Inevitable—

when the scoreboard is a bank statement

and the referees are paid.

This was never the blueprint—

not for those who wrote of inalienable rights,

not for those who believed justice

should never require a receipt.

Yet here we stand—

A long way from yesterday,

where power no longer needs permission,

only capital.

A long way from yesterday,

where exile isn't just ordered—

it's engineered.

A long way from yesterday,

where truth isn't burned—

it's priced out of reach.

And when no one answers for this—

when silence compounds and justice defaults—

then what do we call freedom

when it can be bought,

bent,

and buried?

Well, I guess Freedom ain't Free after all.

And how far have we actually come,

if we have only circled back

to power without answer,

to voices bought and buried,

to justice that cannot stand on its own?

A long way from yesterday?

or perhaps not far enough.

The People Behind the Dream

Dr. Marcus Rushing — founder of EqualRight2Dream

About the Founder

Dr. Marcus Rushing, MD, MPH, MS

Dr. Marcus Rushing is a physician, public health advocate, and the founder of EqualRight2Dream. His journey has been shaped by personal encounters with systemic injustice — experiences that transformed his calling from medicine to advocacy.

Following protected activity, between November 6, 2025, and January 6, 2026, he experienced a rapid transition from housing insecurity to homelessness in Minnesota. His experiences have deepened his commitment to a greater purpose: to advocate for and care for the voiceless and the vulnerable.

What is EQR2D?

A Platform for the Voiceless and the Vulnerable.

EqualRight2Dream aims to provide content that both inspires and informs. Together, we all can ensure that each member of our society has equal protection under the law and access to equal opportunities.

It is up to US to ensure that we each have an equal right to dream.

Why Follow EQR2D?

Champions Who Have Walked Through the Storm

We recognize that true justice requires champions who have walked through the storm. For the voiceless and the vulnerable, it always begins in the hearts of the people who care.
